Differences Between Research Papers and Thesis
First congratulations on making the right choice. Congratulations! You’ve made the first step towards becoming a scholar. Before we begin, let us make sure that you’re not a scholar of knowledge.you must be a scholar of ideas! A research paper has three parts: analysis interpretation, presentation. The analysis and interpretation stage is often the most difficult for students.
The analysis phase involves finding primary and secondary sources. Secondary sources include books, second-hand and primary articles, as well as works written by other authors. Secondary sources include all existing research in your area of interest, such as biographies, literary works or the research of professionals in your field. Interpretation is the second type of research paper. Interpretation involves reading the secondary sources to apply the theory that was developed in the research paper. The final stage is presentation. This is the process of writing an conclusion that connects the secondary sources to your main argument.
Analytical arguments require extensive reading, critical analysis, and hypothesis testing. While doing this, you must be mindful not to come appearing too analytical or too subjective in your arguments. If you are writing an argumentative research paper on Shakespeare, you might want to cite works from other authors before you cite the play. Be careful how you phrase the definition of Shakespeare. This is only one example.
Students might feel overwhelmed by the variety of topics on which they could write their research papers. You can remain motivated by choosing a subject that has been thoroughly researched and on which many scholars agree. For example, one might decide to write research papers on Shakespeare’s tragedies, Jane Austen’s novels, or the works of Goethe. Scholars cite many of these sources, which makes them ideal primary sources for your assignment.
Thinking about the different approaches scholars have taken to different topics in the past will help you feel motivated to finish your assignment. Find out how other scholars faced problems in the past so that you will have an idea of how to tackle problems in the future. This will help you distinguish between research papers and thesis.
A thesis is a research document that is intended to present an argument. A thesis however, is designed to provide a single and definitive answer. Both papers can be written in response to similar questions. The main point is that research papers present facts from multiple angles, whereas the thesis is an information source that is only one source.
Last, but not last, a perspective piece and a research paper differ in the sense that a research article generally provides a single view of the subject; while an article offers diverse perspectives from a range of experts. In addition to presenting only one viewpoint, an article gives examples from which others can draw their own conclusions. Both types of papers require extensive research. It is crucial to gather information, organize it correctly, and then analyze it.
On the flipside students are required to study previous works by researchers in their chosen field in order to prepare their own original research papers. They will be required to study extensively the literature outside of their field of expertise. But unlike a research essay, a student’s assignment doesn’t need to encompass the work of scholars from all disciplines. Students are not required to write research papers, unlike a thesis. Students are encouraged to read scholarly texts from other fields of study as they research for this course.
